Alissa Geving gears up for California's big one, the famed half
mile Calistoga Speedway
After 12th place GSC finish Saturday, 16 year old looks forward
to second career visit to Napa Fairgrounds
By Bill Sullivan
PENNGROVE, CA (6-9-08) - Last Saturday, Penngrove's Alissa Geving
was in competition at her hometown track of Petaluma Speedway when the
Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series came to town. Competing with a
360 cubic inch powered engine, Geving was merely maintaining her point
lead in the Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series but she managed to charge
from 18th to 12th place in the 30 lap feature event aboard the Pit Stop
USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises, A1A Muffler sponsored #3x sprint car.
This Saturday, the 16-year-old third generation driver
looks forward to returning to the series with which her competitive
heart seems to lie,. It's the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint
Car Series and its coming to California's biggest track in the most
beautiful town just over the hill from Geving's hometown , it's the
famed half mile Calistoga Speedway.
"I love running the Civil War Series because I love
all of the people," said Geving, who currently is ranked 11th in the
Civil War Series point standings. " I have truly made some great
friendships along the way. I hope everyone has a safe race and a lot
of fun this weekend. Let's go to Calistoga, I'm ready."
Saturday's event is the 5th round of the 15 race
campaign and it is far from any regular event on the circuit. It takes
place on a track that is draped in the beauty of the surrounding Napa
Valley, a track that is intimidating and dangerous with a history of
both triumphs and tragedy. But to everyone in competition, Calistoga
Speedway, the dark mistress of California dirt tracks, is a special
place to race despite the overwhelming adversities. Saturday will mark
just the second time in Geving's career she will compete at Calistoga
and she's counting the days until she takes the green flag.
In August of 2007, Geving made her big track racing
debut at Calistoga Speedway in the late season Civil War event known
as the "Napa Valley Challenge." Just 15-years old at the time, it was
during that event that Geving caught the attention of many race fans
and gained great respect by her veteran counterparts as she raced
wheel to wheel with the best, won the semi-feature and managed a ninth
place finish in the feature event.
At the conclusion of that hot August evening, Geving's
success made a clear statement to the Northern California racing
population. Her no fear attitude combined with poise and patience
placed her in the top ten at a track where many veteran drivers
struggle to make the A-feature. It was that night that California
learned that the young girl they know as "Chicko" is the real deal and
will soon rise to the top in sprint car racing.
"Calistoga was hands down one of the best highlights
of the season for me,"said Geving. " I had so much fun, every bit of
that night was a total blast. I got the biggest adrenaline rush I have
ever gotten and it felt great testing my luck on the high side. After
the A-main I had two flat and bald rear tires, so lets just say I
tried to push the car to its limits. I am so excited to return to
Calistoga for my second time. This time I will be better at saving my
tires and hopefully will be making the main and finishing good."

PENNGROVE,
CA (6-5-08) - Earlier in the racing season, Bay Area musician Ron
Pestana and producer Bill Bentley released a special rendition of
their song "Angel in Flames" for Penngrove sprint car driver Alissa
Geving. The title was a perfect fit for the 16-year-old open wheel
racing star. It has been used by multiple venues, including area race
tracks and online video tribute and has been featured on the broadcast
television show "Trackside at Infinion" on a pair of occasions.
After several months in production, the Alissa Geving
edition of "Angel in Flames" has been included in a brand new album by
Pestana and Bentley. The 16-track CD features multiple titles with
custom lyrics, referencing Northern California racing wth an emphasis
on events promoted by John Padjen Motorsports including Placerville
Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway, the Civil War Series and the Golden
State Challenge Series. The fifth track on the album is the near 4
minute in length "Angel in Flames" that was re-written in tribute to
the third generation open wheel star.
Beginning this Saturday,Alissa Geving race fans can
purchase their very own edition of the new album for just $10 by
visiting Geving and the Chicko Motorsports team in the pit area of any
race where they compete. And the best part of the bargain, the
proceeds from the album benefit the American Cancer Society in honor
of a family friend of the Gevings.
Forty two-year old Roy Moss has been battling colon
cancer for several years. At the age of 15 Geving began helping the
longtime family friend and Sonoma County father of two in his
courageous battle in both moral and monetary support. The venture all
started when Geving was unable to compete in a "Relay for Life" event
to support Roy due to her racing commitments in the kart series two
years ago. At that time Geving came up with her own fundraising
effort, setting her sights on top finishes and donating winnings to
the American Cancer Society in Roy's honor and called it the "Race of
Life."
Back in April of this year, Geving was excited to
learn that Pestana and Bentley wrote her name into the "Angel in
Flames" song . Now, the soon to be Ursuline High School Senior is
thrilled that the production will benefit Roy and the American Cancer
Society.
"I feel so honored that Ron Pestana and Bill Bentley
would include a song about me on their new album," said Geving. "My
good friend Roy has been battling cancer for years now. A couple of
years abog when I raced karts I started a little thing called "Race
for Life" in which I donated all of my winnings to the American Cancer
Society. I hope with this venture I can make as big of an impact, or
bigger as I did when I earned a couple of thousand dollars in the
karts. I dedicate all my work I have done with the Cancer Society to
my good friend Roy, and he will be in my prayers forever."
Race fans wishing to purchase Pestana's new album,
featuring Alissa Gevings' "Angel in Flames" can do so by visiting the
pit area at her upcoming events. On Saturday, June 7th she will be in
competition at Petaluma Speedway where she leads the point standings
and will be on hand throughout the season Saturday, June 14th she will
compete at the famed half mile Calistoga Speedway for just the second
time in her career. On Saturday, July 4th she plans to compete at
Placerville Speedway.
In addition to being available at Gevings' race
hauler, copies of the album can also be purchased at Gary Geving's AlA
Muffler Shop in Penngrove. The album will also go on sale at
Placerville Speeedway beginning June 7th for the same price of $10 and
proceeds also going to the American Cancer Society as a joint effort
to benefit a great cause and increase public relations between the
Chicko Motorsports Team, John Padjen Motorsports and Pestana.

Geving maintains top ten finish and series point lead
despite damage in All Pro Points race at Petaluma
By Bill Sullivan
PENNGROVE,
CA (5-31-08) – If hard luck came in the form in monetary donations,
sixteen year old Alissa Geving of Penngrove, CA would be on her way to
becoming a wealthy young lady over the past few weeks. Saturday night,
the Petaluma Speedway All Pro Points leader was dealt an ugly hand
once again but she kept her cards on the table and played the game
until the end to maintain her current series point lead.
In qualifying, Geving’s Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro
Enterprises #3X Sprint car was the seventh car in the 18 car field to
take to the track. The night started off well for the Chicko Motorsports
team as she muscled the Gary Geving powered Maxim the second fastest
time of the night, posting a 12:638 second lap in the 3/8 mile speedway.
Geving’s qualifying time positioned her on the outside
of the third row of the evening’s second heat race of the evening. In
the eight lap preliminary event, Geving overtook Clint Simpson and Ricky
Wright to claim the third position behind Brandon Davis and Robbie
Whitchurch.
In the 25-lap feature event, Geving started in an ideal
position to drive her way to a possible second season victory, sitting
on the inside of the second row. As the front row powered ahead, Geving
began a battle with fourth place starter and fellow sophomore racer
Richard Bailey at the waving of the green flag.
Entering the third turn of the opening lap, Bailey
attempted to avoid another car and spun in front of Geving. With too
little time and distance to react, Geving made a valiant attempt to
avoid Bailey but was unable to do so as she became involved in the
incident and was struck by several cars in the attempt. The collisions
caused damage to the #3x, including that of the rear axle which greatly
decreased Geving’s performance for the restart.
Restarting from the rear of the 17 car field, Geving
kept herself in the hunt for the 2008 All Pro Series point lead by
continuing to compete in the event, despite the fact a victory or even a
top five finish was likely out of the question with the damage to her
ride. Remaining calm and utilizing patience is once of Geving’s top
qualities as a young sprint car driver. Utilizing those skills and being
cautious with her ill handling car, Geving managed her way to the 10th
finishing position at the waving of the checkered flag.
With the top ten finish, Geving will maintain her
current All Pro Points lead at Petaluma Speedway. While traveling to
different tracks throughout California is a strong desire of Geving’s
she remains focused on earning her first championship title of her young
career at her hometrack of Petaluma Speedway. Finishing in the top ten
despite the damage topped a week of success for Alissa Geving.
Earlier in the week she was honored academically at
Ursuline High School in Sonoma where she is currently a junior. Geving
was recognized with a scholar leadership award, the University of
Rochester Xerox award for innovation and information technology. Was
presented with honors in physics and was recognized for her auto racing
accomplishments including the Paul Tyler Rising Star Award she received
in March and for her appearance in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the
Crowd.”
This Saturday, June 7, Alissa Geving and the Chicko
Motorsports team look forward to competing with California’s best
drivers as the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car series will be in
competition at Petaluma Speedway. This event also awards championship
points towards the All Pro point series. During the last visit, Geving
charged her way to sixth in the event, driving a 360 cubic inch powered
car against a field of 410 powered machines and earning top point honors
for the weekly series.

Geving completes Memorial Day weekend with Chico double header and
advancement in Civil War series
By Bill Sullivan
PENNGROVE,
CA (5-25-08) - Sixteen year-old Alissa Geving returned to the
likes of Silver Dollar Speedway for two consecutive nights of racing
over the Memorial Day weekend. The double header event took place
beneath the backdrop of the annual Silver Dollar Fair, an event Geving
and the Chicko Motorsports team all look forward and concluded their
weekend with a 13th place finish and advancement in the competitive
Civil War Sprint Car Series.
After using Saturday's non-points event to test and tune her new 2008
Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises Maxim Sprint Car, Geving's
highlight of the two day weekend was Sunday's Hoosier Racing Tires
Civil War Sprint Car Series event, the fourth segment of a 15-race
series that competes at six different California Speedway's throughout
the season.
In
qualifying on Sunday, Geving clocked the 11th fastest time out of the
48 drivers in competition with a 12:637 second lap on the quarter-mile
track. Much of Geving's success in qualifying can be attributed to
several early season visits to Silver Dollar Speedway to compete in
the Friday night weekly series where she familiarized herself with the
track, one that has become a favorite for the recipient of the 2007
Motorsports Press Association's Rising Star Award.
In the third heat race of the evening, Geving kept the capacity filled
grandstands on the edge of their seat as she competed in the company
of California's best to finish an impressive second place. Geving
started the 10-lap event on the outside of the second row. She quickly
charged into the second position at the waving of the green flag.
After moving into the bridesmaid position, Geving's drive to the
finish line was far from over as she battled veteran drivers Colby
Wiesz of Colfax and defending four time series champion Andy Forsberg
of Auburn. Wiesz drove to the inside of Geving to steal the position
momentarily, only to have Geving live up to latest knick name, angel
in flames, as she fired the Gary Geving powered #3x back into the
second position to secure the position and a starting position in the
30-lap feature event.
In the feature event, a wind damaged track surfaced proved challenging
for Geving but she remained in the hunt for the entire 30-lap affair
in which she started on the outside of the fifth row. Despite damage
to the tail of the #3x, Geving finished 14th in the 22-car event and
unofficially advanced in the series point standings.
Prior to Sunday's headline event, Geving and the Chicko Motorsports
team debuted their new 2008 Maxim during the non-points event at
Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday night. In this event a 7th place
finish in the heat race placed Geving in the B-feature and once again
the young lady took the upper hand when her cards were down. Geving
started 12th in the event and worked her way to the sixth position by
the four lap mark. It was then that she became involved in multi-car
collision on the front stretch that caused damage to the front of her
car.
Pulling off
track, Geving was assisted by several members of numerous teams who
ran to her aid, removing the torn front wing and making the necessary
repairs to get her back to the track surface, an effort which
displayed great sportsmanship and was truly appreciated by the Chicko
Motorsports team. When she returned to the track, she was a woman on a
mission and rallied back through the field, reaching the fourth place
transfer position by the 10th lap despite the lack of a nose wing and
suffering a rear flat tire in the final laps of the race. The finish
placed her 20th in the starting line up of the A-feature.
As she advanced through the field, Geving's evening came to close on
the eighth lap when she exited the fourth turn behind Pleasanton
driver Brad Furr. Furr spun in front of Geving, who unavoidable
collided into Furr, send her to the pit area with damage for the
evening.
This Saturday, Alissa Geving returns to her home track of Petaluma
Speedway where she maintains the 2008 All Pro Point Series point lead.
The team will return to the Civil War Series on June 14 at the half
mile Calistoga Speedway on the Napa County Fairgrounds. This event
will mark Geving's second visit of her career to California's most
intimidating dirt track.

Geving shakes off rough night in Petaluma All Pro Series and heads
for Chico Civil War event
By Bill Sullivan
PENNGROVE,
CA (5-11-08) - Every athlete has a bad day now and then, Michael
Jordan didn't win every basketball game in his career, the New England
Patriots were eluded from the super bowl they were expected to win and
even though its with great despair, such athletes have a special
skill. The have the ability to put misfortune to bed, learn from
mistakes and remain optimistic about events to come. At just 16
years-old, winged sprint car driver Alissa Geving of Penngrove,
California proved she is no exception to that special quality this
past weekend.
For the entire racing season, Geving has been on a success streak in
California sprint car racing with top finishes in nearly every event
she has competed and the ownership of the All Pro Point Series Sprint
car point lead at Petaluma Speedway. This past Saturday, Geving and
her Chick-O-Motorsports suffered their fair share of hard luck aboard
the Pit Stop USA - Matt Cordeiro Construction #3x sprint car. Despite
the breeze of ill fated luck, Geving maintains her home track point
lead and is already looking forward to a big event this coming
weekend.
In qualifying Saturday night, Geving turned the fourth fastest lap on
the Petaluma 3/8 mile track with a 13.155, placing her n the outside
of the second row in her heat race. After finishing 3rd in the 8 lap
qualifying the current Petaluma Speedway All Pro Series point leader
started the A-feature in the third position. Just three laps into the
race, misfortune struck the Ursuline High School Junior when she
suffered a damaging roll over to draw a red flag.
Although the car suffered its share of damage and was not handling
properly, Geving's crew made quick repairs, enabling her to return to
the track surface with front end damage and the lack of a front wing
to earn valuable points towards the All Pro Series championship. When
the checkered flag flew she finished 7th overall.
"We had a really bad night tonight," said Geving. "It was
the first flip of the season and hopefully the last. Nothing really
went our way all night. This happens to everyone I guess. We still
have our point lead and that is what I am focusing on. Holding on to
that will be my main priority."
This coming weekend, Mary 24-25th Geving will travel to Silver Dollar
Speedway in Chico to return to the Hoosier Tires Civil War Sprint Car
Series. The weekend will include two different races in on the Silver
Dollar clay. Saturday night will be a non-points race to test and tune
the car for Sunday's grand affair that will bring California's best
drivers to compete beneath the sights and sounds of the colorful
Silver Dollar Fair.
The up and coming two day show at Chico is something I am really
looking forward to," added Geving. "I am very excited to get
back to that track, I love it so much. I can't wait to test myself
with California's best drivers."
With just three events complete in the 15-race series that competes at
6 different California tracks, over 50 different drivers have competed
in the Civil War Series. Geving currently sits 12th in the standings,
just 61-points from the lead. In the Civil War Series a driver can
earn as many as 80 points in one night of racing, which indicates how
competitive this campaign is and how well Geving has fared so far in
the series looking at the point statistics thus far.

Geving maintains Petaluma All Pro Points lead with hard charge to
fifth place feature finish
By Bill Sullivan
PENNGROVE, CA (5-10-08) - Penngrove's Alissa Geving returned to the
likes of Petaluma Speedway Saturday night to resume her quest for the
2008 All Pro Point Series championship aboard the Chick-O-Motorsports,
Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises Sprint car. Once again the 16
year old third generation talent overcame her share of adversity early
in the night and rallied her way to an 5th place finish in the feature
event.
Geving started the evening with qualifying when she turned a 12.8
second lap on the the challengins 3/8 mile oval. The qualifying time
placed her second on the roster out of the 15 cars in competition. The
bridesmaid qualifying time also positioned her in the third row of the
8-lap preliminary heat race.
In the heat race, Geving was attempting to work her way through slower
traffic when she was racing on the high side of the surface and
collided with another competitor before collecting David Lindt Jr. who
unavoidably became involved in the incident. With minimal damage to
the #3x Maxim Sprint car, Geving restarted the race from the rear of
the field and rallied back to finish in the fifth position.
Missing the inversion for the feature event by just one position,
Geving started the feature event in the sixth row and was forced to
work her way through traffic to reach the front of the field. After
passing Jeremy Burt on the start of the race, Geving dueled with
Roberto Kirby for the seventh position. With an extremely rutted track
surface, much of the race resembled that of a rodeo rather then a
sprint car race and at one point Geving fell victim to the conditions
when she struck one of the rutts, slowed and allowed Kirby to resume
the 7th position.
With a number of delays throughout the night, Saturday's feature event
was shortened by five laps. During those final circuits Geving
overtook Kirby for the second time in the event and then muscled her
way past Brandon Davis and was closing in on veteran driver David
Lindt Jr. when the checkered flag waved. Despite starting to the rear
of the field, Geving rallied to the 5th position, her fifth top sixth
finish in the season at the track she calls home.
"Tonight I had to come from the back and the track was super rough, I
wish I had found my line on the top earlier in the night," said
Geving. "I'm running for the points championship and the can be so
dangerous so I try not too push it too much, but tonight I knew I had
to do something. I really wanted to win this for my Mom tonight for
Mother's Day but I think she's happy when the car comes off the track
in one piece. "
Following Saturday's event, Geving undoubtedly will continue to
maintain the point lead in the weekly All Pro Series championship
campaign. David Lindt Jr., a five time champion here, is currently in
the second position and gained two points on Geving with Saturday's
fourth place finish. The 2008 championship campaign will surely heat
up in the weeks to come between Geving, the 16-year-old driver inher
sophomore season and Lindt, one of Petaluma's winningest drivers along
with Alissa's father, Gary Geving who also raced with Lindt prior to
passing the driving duties to Alissa last year.
"I am so focused on the points right now so I feel very dedicated to
my goal of winning a championship," added Geving. "I want to finish
every race and to do that I need to stay focused. I'm very proud to be
leading the point series over past champion David Lindt Jr., it's an
honor."
This Saturday, May 17, Alissa Geving and her Chick-O-Motorsports team
will return to Petaluma Speedway to continue their campaign for the
2008 track championship. In two weeks the team looks forward to
traveling to the north state where they will spend two days competing
at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Silver Dollar Fair and the
Hoosier Tires Civil War Race Series.

Geving Improves in Third Trip to Placerville; Aims to Maintain
Petaluma All Pro Point Lead This Week
By Bill Sullivan
PENNGROVE,
CA (5-4-08) - Every time Alissa Geving returns to Placerville
Speedway, things get a little bit better for the 16-year-old driver in
her sophomore year of racing behind the wheel of the
Chick-o-Motorsports, Pit Stop Usa #3x Maxim sprint car.
Saturday, May 3 was a busy day for Geving and her entire team as they
departed Penngrove at 7 a.m. and headed for El Dorado County to
participate in the first annual Tribute to Al Hinds Sprint Car Show
and bbq at Family Chevrolet in Shingle Springs. The area auto
dealership is the annual sponsor of the Tribute to Al Hinds race at
Placerville Speedway and Geving was one of 16 different drivers they
invited to the event that drew some 500 race fans and families who had
the opportunity to meet a number of different drivers.
"I would like to thank Tony Montalbano for inviting me to the bbq at
Family Chevrolet," said Geving. "It was an honor and a blast. I have
learned a lot this year and I have gained some awesome friendships.
I'm proud to be part of such an awesome organization, the Civil War
Series."
Following an afternoon of meeting hundreds of area race fans and
excited youngsters, Geving and the crew headed further east in the
afternoon to Placerville Speedway. The return to the action packed
bullring marked just her third visit in her racing career. The
characteristics of Placerville Speedway are quite different that that
of Petaluma and Silver Dollar Speedway which Geving and the team
frequent and have mastered the set up accordingly.
In qualifying, Geving was the 19th car to take to the track.
Placerville has been a challenge in qualifying during previous visits
but Saturday that was not the case when she turned a lap time of
10:767 seconds, placing her 12th in the 39 car field, her best
qualifying effort at the foothill speedway ever.
Gevings' qualifying time placed her in the fouth heat race of the
evening where she started on the outside of the front row, next to
Sacramento driver Willie Croft. Croft took the lead of the event while
Geving followed in his wake and the two top runners broke away from
the field. In the closing laps Geving closed in on Croft on pair of
occasions but remained patient and drove a smart race, finishing
second ahead of David Robinson Jr. and Brad Furr to secure a starting
spot in the 30-lap A-feature.
Starting 12th in the A-feature, Geving overtook Scott Kinney for the
11th position on the second lap and then fell victim to a dry slick
race surface and an ill handling car, spinning out to draw the yellow
flag. Following then restart, Geving began working her way back into
the race and just after moving into the 21st position lost traction in
the first and second turns to spin a second time, forcing her to the
pits for the evening.
Disappointed with her night, Geving remained positive and optimistic
about her third visit to Placerville Speedway. "Placerville was an
overall good experience, " said Geving. "Qualifying was the best part
of the night because I finally got dialed in as opposed to past
experiences. I was very happy with 12th in qualifying. The heat race
went well too, I found a lot of moisture on the track and that helped
me get second place. Our night ended bad but the rest was great so I'm
happy."
Geving's father Gary, a multiple Petaluma Speedway champion who now
spends his Saturday nights assisting his talented daughter in the pit
area, credited Alissa for her effort Saturday night. "We just missed
the set up tonight, and that's my fault," he said. "Alissa did a great
job tonight. Each time we've come here she has gotten one step
further. Tonight she made it into the A main and she hadn't done that
here before. This place is a lot different for us and we're starting
to figure it out so next time we'll take another step forward."
This Saturday, May 10 Geving and the Chick-O-Motorsports team will
head back to their home track of Petaluma Speedway to resume their
campaign in the 2008 All Pro Point Series championship. So far this
season, Geving has had a great deal of success on the 3/8 mile track,
earning one feature win, a second place and a third in the All Pro
Series as well as a sixth place finish in with the Golden State
Challenge Series, an event in which she competed with a 360 cubic inch
motor.
Geving returns to Petaluma Speedway in the point lead of the weekly
series. She has a 32-point advantage over veteran driver David Lindt
Jr. of Sebastapol. Geving will return to the Civil War Series for the
fourth leg of the 15 race campaign on Sunday, May 25 when the series
visits Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for a special event over the
Memorial Day weekend.

NO BRAKES !, no problem; late race pass nets Geving first feature
victory of 2008 Petaluma All Pro Series
By Bill Sullivan
PETALUMA,
CA (4-26-08)
Going into Saturday night, Penngrove's Alissa Geving was faced with a
big decision. Would the 16-year-old high school junior attend the prom
or strap into her Pit Stop USA-Chick-O-Motorsports #3x sprint car and
return to the likes of Petaluma Speedway for the weekly All Pro point
series? Choosing the latter of the two options, Geving made the best of
her decision, driving to her first feature victory of the season at her
home town track where she leads the point standing enroute to a possible
first career championship.
After qualifying in fifth on the roster with a 12.98 on the 3/8 mile,
Geving started fourth in her 8-lap preliminary heat race. After holding
the third position for much of the event the current series point leader
overtook Pope Valley's Jeff Parady for the second position and began
closing in on Roberto Kirby for the lead before the checkered flag waved
and she finished in the second position.
Following the second place preliminary heat race, Geving started on the
pole of the feature with fellow teen competitor Shane Golobic of
Freemont on the outside.. With the waving of the green flag Geving
charged into a decisive lead over Golobic soon spun and was overtaken by
veteran racer Art McCarthy prior to a caution flag which place McCarty
nose to tail behind Geving for the restart.
Once the event was restarted, Geving worked her best on a rough track
surface where the high line of the track was the faster line, much
different that the previous weeks when running the bottom has led Geving
to a top five in all but one event so far this season. Doing her best to
avoid the rough portions of the track surface, Geving was forced to race
through the adverse conditions like the others for much of the event as
it was still the fastest racing line despite the conditions that caused
a number of caution periods due to spins and crashes, many of which
Geving narrowly avoided.
With only eight laps to go, Geving maintained a healthy lead over
McCarthy until she struck one of the larger ruts of the track. Upon the
impact smoke became apparent coming from the rear of the Gary Geving
powered Maxim. The brake rotor had burned into the brake line causing a
loss of brakes, adding even more adversity for Geving for the final laps
of the race. With 20 laps complete such adversity led to the loss of the
lead when Geving was forced to slow considerably in lapped traffic,
which permitted McCarthy to overtake the lead with just five laps
remaining.
Adjusting to the conditions at hand, Geving utilized her patience and
smart driving skills, keeping the momentum down the straights and into
the corner and then coasting to the high side of the track lap after lap
to make up for the lack of brakes. With just two laps to go the teen
lady racer brought the grandstands to a frenzy once again when she made
a daring on the high side of turns one and two to overtake McCarthy for
the lead. At the finish Geving posted her fifth career win in a full
size sprint car and her first victory of 2008. McCarthy finished in
second follow by Bradley Terry, Parady and David Lindt Jr.
"The A-main was a very scary race for me," said Geving. "It was bumpy up
on the top and there was a few times when I almost lost the lead because
of the bicycling. After I hit the rut my left fell to floor, no brakes.
So I had to take it easy and try to hold on. Of course the lapped
traffic made it tough without brakes and I lost the lead and then was
able to get it back. Talk about intense, I was glad the car survived and
that everything worked in my favor tonight."
Following Saturday's event which will undoubtedly increase Geving's
Petaluma All Pro Series point lead, the Chick-O Motorsports Team will
set its sights on returning to Placerville Speedway for the fifth annual
"Tribute to Al Hinds" Civil War Race. This will be just third time
Geving will compete on Placerville's competitive bullring and she looks
forward to the return. The entire day will include festivities in honor
of the late racing promoter, including an invitational sprint car show
and shine and barbecue at Family Chevrolet-Cadillac in Shingle Springs.
Geving will be one of 15 different drivers that will be on hand for the
event.
"We're looking forward to coming up to Placerville for the Al Hinds
race," she added. "I wasn't even born when Al Hinds ran that track and I
never had the opportunity to meet him but I have heard so many great
things about what he did for the sport from others and my dad. I think
it's really important that we continue to recognize the pioneers of this
sport and make sure they are never forgotten."

Geving is highest finishing 360 sprint car with
sixth place in Golden State Series feature

PETALUMA, CA (4-19-08) - After suffering damage to her 410 cubic inch
motor last weekend, Penngrove's Alissa Geving was forced to bring a
knife to a gunfight at Petaluma Speedway Saturday night. The
16-year-old leader of the Petaluma All Pro Points Series took to the
track in her 360 powered Chick-O-Motorsports-Pit Stop USA #3x sprint
car to compete against California's best drivers, those in the fire
breathing 410 sprint cars of the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car
Series.
In an effort to maintain quality car counts, Petaluma
Speedway awards accumulative points for the weekly All Pro Points
series events to its regular competitors during special events such as
the GSC and the traveling Civil War Series. As the current point
leader who is setting her sights on her first series championship,
Geving had no choice but to enter the event with her smaller engine to
maintain her status in the championship campaign. When the checkered
flag flew, it was another successful night for the Ursuline High
School Junior and her family owned team when she became the highest
finishing 360 powered car in the event, placing an impressive sixth
place behind race winner Bud Kaeding, Jason Statler, Mike Henry, Kyle
Hirst and Evan Suggs, all top drivers of the GSC series.
Geving's night started with the 12th fastest lap in
qualifying which placed her on the second row of her heat race. On the
circuit of the 10-lap opener she initially powered into the third
position but a caution flag reverted the race back to the previous
lap. Once the official green flag waved Geving powered her Gary Geving
powered Maxim into the fifth position and after several laps of
pursuit, overtook Dan Simpson for the fourth position prior to the
checkered flag.
By transferring from her heat race, Geving started the
30-lap feature event in the 12th position. At the waving of the green
flag she trailed veteran driver Mike Henry and the two worked together
to find the fast line of the track. After forfeiting a pair of
positions early in the race, both Henry and Geving began pressuring
their way through the field.
Fighting the challenges of an extremely tight car for
much of the race, Geving spent several early laps of the event
battling with track veteran David Lindt Jr., a winning force at
Petaluma Speedway and one of the most respected drivers of the area.
After passing Lindt, lapped traffic allowed him to overtake the driver
known as "Chick-O" to her counterparts but Geving answered back in
less than a lap to redeem the position.
Following the brief battle with Lindt, Geving closed
in on Henry's wake once again and continued to charge her way towards
the top five. The duo overcame a hard fought battle with Fresno's
Shane Golobic. Henry managed his way around the young USAC Midget star
while Geving trailed the second generation driver until a red flag
flew in the final ten laps of the race for Brent Kaeding who went
upside down in the first and second turns.
On the restart and side by side battle ensued between
Geving and Golobic with Geving eventually getting the upper hand on
Golobic for the sixth position. When the checkered flag waved Geving
claimed the sixth position and became the highest finishing 360 sprint
car in the event. The accomplishment earned her valuable accumulative
points to contribute to her early season point lead in the All Pro
Series.
"I had blast running with these drivers in the GSC
tonight. I miss running with them on Friday nights at Chico," said
Geving."Maybe after my dad re-builds our back up 360 motor we can run
it at Chico Friday nights a couple of times. The more races I run with
these guys the more comfortable I feel. We are focusing on the Civil
War and Petaluma for points so we can't put too many races on the 360.
Overall I had a blast tonight."
The upcoming week is another busy one for Alissa
Geving and the Chick-O-Motorsports team as they prepare for next
Saturday's weekly point race at Petaluma Speedway and begin setting
their sights on the upcoming Civil War event at Placerville Speedway
on May 3rd. This Tuesday, Alissa Geving will be a featured guest on
the nationally known "Full Throttle Racing Show" on dirtvision.com.
The program will air at 8 p.m. easterns time and 5 p.m. on the west
coast. Next weekend, she will also be featured on the broadcast
television series title "Trackside at Infinion Raceway" which airs in
conjuction with the weekend coverage of the NASCAR Nationwide Series
and Nextel Cup at Talladega Speedway. The program will air on KOVR 13
in the Sacramento region and on KTVU 2 in the bay area. Race fans are
urged to check their local listings for the exact airing of the
program to tune in.

Geving sets fast time, overcomes adversity to finish sixth in
Petaluma Civil War feature
Story by Bill Sullivan

PETALUMA, CA (4-12-08) - Penngrove's Alissa Geving returned to her
home track of Petaluma Speedway Saturday night, April 12 to compete in
the second segment of the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car
Series, a diverse 15-race series that competes in 15 total events at 6
different facilities in Northern California. This was the third race of
the week for 16-year-old Geving who competed in the series opener at
Placerville on Wednesday and raced in the Silver Dollar Speedway weekly
series on Friday night.

On Saturday, all eyes in the Petaluma grandstands were
on Geving's Chick-O-Motorsports, Pit Stop USA #3X sprint car. Over the
past two weeks, Geving has earned the hard charger award here,
charging to two straight top three finishes in the weekly All Pro
point series. On this night, Geving would put on another impressive
performance, turning some hard luck into success by the end of the
night.
The night began on a positive note when Geving bested
the 40-car field in qualifying. Geving earned the fast time award with
a 12:89 second lap on the flat Petaluma 3/8 mile.
"I noticed that everybody was driving it in deep and
coming off high so I thought I would try to drive it in low and it
worked," said Geving. "I was lucky to get my qualifying lap towards
the end because I think the track got faster. I am super happy getting
fast time with the Civil War."
In heat racing competition the evening took a downward
twist for Geving when an unavoidable collision badly damaged her Gary
Geving powered Maxim. Competing in the first heat race of the evening,
Geving started on the outside of the third row. After three restarts
in the event, Geving went to the high side of the track in an effort
to gain the fourth place transfer position when Scott Kinney spun in
front of her and she had no time to avoid a collision.
The impact with Kinney's car severely damaged Geving's
frame, bending it six inches to the left. The torsion tube was bent to
a near 45 degree angle and the shock towers were torn off the frame of
the car. The damage was severe enough that the team contemplated
leaving the track and returning with their 410 chassis until a number
of fellow competitors pitched in to make the needed repairs. Veteran
driver Jim Richardsen loaned the team a coil over shock and spring and
the crew and family from fellow racer Mason Moore all pitched in to
help. Geving was grateful for all the assistance which illustrated the
great sportsmanship that exists in this sport.
Without a fourth place finish in the heat race, Geving
was forced to run the B-main in a last chance effort to make it into
the A-feature. At the waving of the green flag it was apparent that
Gevings' car was not 100 percent with the bent frame and substitute
coil over shocks. But the adversities didn't set the Ursuline High
School Junior back a bit as she went on to win the 12-lap affair to
secure a starting spot in the A-feature.
In the A-feature Geving started seventh, sitting on
the inside of the fourth row with Fair Oaks' Chad Compton on the
outside. Using caution with her ill handling car, Geving fell back a
couple of positions on the opening lap and then found her line to
begin advancing towards the front. With the top of the track extremely
rough, Geving was forced to run the bottom of the track where she soon
passed Compton who was also having his share of handling woes in the
event.
Once Geving had passed Compton it was defending series
champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn she set her sights on. Forsberg was
already in a heated battle with Andy Gregg of Placerville, winner of
last year's Petaluma Civil War event. Geving made several attempts to
pass Forsberg on the low side of the track and the two drivers partook
in several laps of clean side by side racing with Forsberg maintaining
the position and passing Gregg for the fifth position.
"I feel comfortable racing with Forsberg and Gregg," said Geving. "I
know they will race clean and have fun. It was very fun and exciting
racing with them tonight."
With Forsberg out of reach, Geving set battle with
Gregg for the sixth place position in the closing laps and
accomplished the feat to take a sixth place finish at the checkered
flag on a night that was nearly over after the heat race accident. The
sixth place finish will surely advance Geving in the Civil War point
standings as she campaigns for the 2008 series campaign. Round three
of the series is only three weeks away back at Placerville on May 3.
Prior to Saturday's event, Geving and the
Chick-O-Motorsports made the trip to Silver Dollar Speedway Friday
night to compete in the weekly championship point series. The team
traveled to Chico early in the day and Geving flew from Santa Rosa
into Chico just in time for hot laps.
In qualifying Geving turned the 20th fastest lap of
the night with a 12:294 second lap. In the fourth heat race of the
night she passed pole sitter Matt Davis to win the event when the
motor began running rough in the car. Following the win it was
discovered that the car was running on seven cylinders and suffered a
broken piston during the preliminary events. To prevent further damage
the team elected to withdraw from the program.
This Saturday night, Geving will return to Petaluma
Speedway for the weekly All Pro championship series. At this time is
appears the team will be unable to compete in the 410 competition at
Chico and will focus on their 360 sprint car program in weeks to come.

Geving dodges mayhem, finishes 8th in semi feature in
Placerville Civil War Series opener
By Bill Sullivan
PLACERVILLE, CA (4-9-08) - Penngrove's Alissa Geving began her 2008
Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Series tour Wednesday night at
Placerville Speedway during an event that certainly lived up to it's
name of "Wild Winged Wednesday." The visit was just Geving's second
Placerville Speedway appearance of her young career and the 16-year-old
rising star ended her night with a strong eighth place finish in the
semi-main event aboard the Chick-O-Motorsports, Pit Stop USA #3X sprint
car.
Following a mad dash to Placerville Speedway directly
from Ursline High School, Geving arrived at the track just in time to
join the 42-car field for wheel packing and hot laps for the special
weeknight event. With the much appreciated guidance and advice from
former Civil War champion Mike Henry in the pit area, Geving and the
Chick-O-Motorsports team made the needed adjustments for Placerville's
high banked bullring, which differs greatly from the much flatter
Petaluma Speedway she is familiar with.
In qualifying, Geving only timed in for one lap,
clocking in the 32nd position. On the second circuit she drifted high in
the second turn and elected to drive to the pit area to make the needed
adjustments for the upcoming heat races.
In the fourth 10-lap heat race of the night, Geving started in the
eighth place position. A slow start by several cars in the front of the
field forced Geving to slow as she exited the opening turn to avoid a
collision with seventh place starter Richard Bailey and Willie Croft of
Sacramento. Once the field spread out Geving began charging her way
towards the front in the hunt for a top four finish to avoid the
grueling semi-main event later in the program.
After passing Bailey and Croft, Geving went on to
overtake Peter Breshears and crash victim Christian Stover in the
preliminary event. At the waving of the checkered flag she finished in
the fifth position, just one spot out of the transfer position which
forced her to compete in the 12-lap B-main event.
Despite the qualifying run and the near miss in her heat
race, Geving applied her always positive attitude to her efforts in the
semi-feature event. She started deep in the field, in the 16th position
with only 12 laps being the scheduled distance of the event. It was in
this event that Geving's comfort level became apparent as she charged
her way toward the front of the field, avoiding multiple incidents and
rollovers that took place throughout the race.
Using both the high line and the low line of the track,
Geving sliced and diced her way through the field and was charging
towards the front late in the event. On the white flag lap she was in a
heated battle with Calistoga driver Mike Benson for the seventh place
alternate position, nearly passing Benson on the backstretch before the
veteran driver closed the door on her effort to maintain the spot. At
the finish line Geving finished a strong eighth place behind winner Andy
Forsberg, Colby Wiesz, Willie Croft, Kyle Hirst, Matt Petty, Greg
DeCaires and Benson, all weekly to contenders at Placerville Speedway.
With Placerville Speedway's event in the history books,
Geving and the Chick-O-Motorsports Team will now head back home to
Petaluma Speedway this Saturday as the Civil War Series continues it
campaign with the second of 15 races at six different California tracks.
Recently Geving has scored two consecutive top three finishes on her
home track during the weekly All Pro Series, finishing third in the
opener two weeks ago and second last Saturday night.

Top finishes net Geving Petaluma Speedway All Pro
Series point lead
By Bill Sullivan
PETALUMA, CA (4-5-08) - Following her second consecutive top three
finish last weekend, 16-year-old Alissa Geving of Penngrove, California
has taken over the early season point lead at her home track of Petaluma
Speedway. Geving currently sits in the lead position by a 9-point margin
over Matt Sargent.
"Taking over the points lead is probably the best
feeling I've ever had," said Geving. "I have never led a points series
before and I am ecstatic. Now I need to stop being proud and concentrate
on keeping the lead"
Driving her family owned Chick-O-Motorsports - Pit Stop
USA #3X sprint car, Geving has earned the hardcharger award for two
consecutive weeks at Petaluma Speedway. Two weeks ago in the season
opener for the All Pro weekly point series, Geving started 12th in
A-feature and charged her way from the rear of the field to finish 3rd
in the 25-lap feature event. More recently, she charged from a 12th
place starting position and made a last lap pass to finish second last
Saturday night.
With two consistent top three finishes, Geving is setting
her sights on a strong campaign for the 2008 Petaluma Speedway track
championship. Last season she made history at her home town track when,
at the age of 15, she became the youngest female nationwide to ever win
a sprint car feature. Geving continued her successful rookie season with
a total of four feature wins between both Petaluma and Antioch Speedway,
earning Rookie of the Year honors at the conclusion of the season.
In addition to the wins in 2007, Geving was named the
Paul Tyler Rising Star by the Motorsports Press Association and was
named one of just 80 young drivers as being eligible for NASCAR's
Developmental program. In an effort to maintain her 4.4 grade average at
Ursline High School, she chose to pass the opportunity this time around
but has hopes of one day becoming part of the nation's leading stock car
racing body.
This Wednesday, April 9, Geving and the
Chick-O-Motorsports crew will travel to Placerville Speedway in the
Sierra Foothills this Wednesday night for "Wild Winged Wednesday" and
the opening round the Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series.
Following her second ever appearance at Placerville, she will return to
her home track of Petaluma series to compete in the series for its
second round."

Even flames can't thwart Geving; 16-year old rallies back to third
place feature finish
By Bill Sullivan
PETALUMA, CA (3-29-08) - Penngrove's Alissa Geving returned to
her home track of Petaluma Speedway Saturday night for the opening
round of the 2008 All Pro point series at Petaluma Speedway. Despite a
number of adversities in preliminary competition, Geving used patience
and skill to charge her way to another impressive top three finish at
the conclusion of the night aboard the Chick-O-Motorsports - Pit Stop
USA #3 sprint car.
Upon arrival at Petaluma Speedway Saturday afternoon,
Geving learned that the evening would exclude the routine timed
qualifying due to the inclement weather and a delayed start time. The
program utilized a pill draw for heat race position and the
disappointment of no qualifying turned far more positive when she
earned the pole position of her heat race.
Leading the event with only two laps remaining, Geving
suffered a cracked valve cover which resulted in an intense oil fire,
drawing a red flag and ultimately ending the race with the checkered
flag being waved thereafter. Uninjured and undaunted from the
incident, the Ursline High School Junior avoided racing in a grueling
semi-feature as the field consisted of just 15 cars, down partially
due to the questionable weather and the fact that several teams are
still preparing for the upcoming year.
Starting the A-feature in the rear of the field,
Geving began her season at Petaluma much like she left off at the
conclusion of last year, charging towards the front like each lap is
the last. Saturday's track was extremely racy due to the damp
conditions, but with the lack of a cushion near the top of the racing
surface, it was difficult to race a high line while the low line of
the track was very greasy, requiring great finesse and determination
to negotiate a successful pass.
Late in the event a red flag paused the race and on
the ensuing restart Geving was on fire once again, only this time it
was a different kind of fire as she made a late race charge from
seventh to third place and even battled with veteran Petaluma driver
Art McCarthy for a number of laps. Geving overtook McCarthy for third
on the final time around the 3/8 mile. She then set her sights on
second place Rick Williams and eventual winner Tyler Franklin.
However, time ran out for Geving to further advance when the 25 lap
mark was reached and she ended the night with an impressive third
place finish, advancing eight positions and undoubtedly being the
hard-charger of the night.
"I was bummed at first when they said they weren't
qualifying the sprints tonight," said Geving. "Until I found out I
started on the pole and was leading it, up until the car caught on
fire. In the main event nobody was really passing anyone as far as I
could see. After the restart I just found a good line and got up to
third. It was awesome, I loved it and now I'm really excited for the
Petaluma races coming up."
Geving will return to Petaluma Speedway this Saturday,
April 5th for the second championship event of the season before she
heads east to Placerville Speedway on Wednesday, April 9th for the
rescheduled season opener of the traveling Hoosier Tires Civil War
Series. On Saturday, April 12th the series will compete in its second
round of the 15 race campaign at Geving's home track, Petaluma
Speedway.

Alissa's Night at Trophy Cup Tulare, CA. Cut Short...........
Tulare Photo Credit - WWW.RACINGIMAGERY.COM
http://www.RACINGIMAGERY.COM
Alissa was very excited to go to THE
trophy cup race this year. Everyone was talking about the big race. It was the biggest
race of the year. Missing class for racing was not something that Alissa does. Keeping
that 4.3 GPA alive.
Alissa is very dedicated to
school. Racing on the other hand is her passion and she did not want to miss the biggest
race of the year. She already missed Fall Nationals so she knew she wasn't going to miss
this one. So the Chick-o-motorsports team did the big trip to Tulare California. Alissa
was so excited after just landing a big sponsor with Pit Stop USA ( www.pitstopusa.com ) She wanted to
try out the fast Thunder Bowl speedway. "Everyone was so nice at the track. I was
having a great time there. It was looking to be a great weekend of racing.
The spaghetti feed sounded great too". Alot of cars would come to
this big Trophy Cup race. 87 cars would be on hand. Alissa would be the 80th car on the
track to qualify. After having 3 laps of hot-laps Alissa did a great job of pulling off a
14.0 qualifying time. That would put her 30th quick. Right where she wanted to be, in the
inversion. Unfortunately Randy Hannigan would come out after her and bump her out of the
the inversion.
So Alissa would go from starting in the
front row of her heat race to starting 4th row. "Everyone was fast in the heat race
and I was just figuring out the track. So I wasn't able to pass for any spots." So
that would put Alissa in the B main event. Starting 6th row inside Alissa knew she wanted
to get to the outside quick if she wanted to make any passes. It was going to be hard to
transfer from this race. Only taking 4 she knew the chances were not great. But that
didn't stop Alissa from trying.
She went to the top and passed the 1x car and was coming out of turn 4 when another car
car spun right in front of her. The track is so fast that Alissa did not have time to
react. She hit the other car which sent her into a flip.
The team would evaluate the situation realizing the car was pretty bad. The frame was
cracked in 2 spots and Alissa had a sore neck. The team decided to call it a weekend.
"We could have put the car back together but who knows how safe it would have been.
This place is not the place I want my kid when the car isn't right. It is fast and rough.
So we will save what we have and rebuild over the winter. Unfortunately it is along time
until the next race"
The team would have stuck around to
enjoy the rest of the weekend's racing but Alissa had to get home to a Physics class.
Special thanks to the crew for working so hard to get the car ready for the event. Thank
you to all the fans and helpers who came out to cheer for us !
Alissa had a strong 7th place finish at the Oct. 20th Show at the Petaluma Speedway. It
was her first experience with a very dry, slick track. Twice she had to come from the back
and still finished in the Top Ten. Of the big pack of Sprints, she was one of the hardest
chargers, passing a ton of cars. "It was awesome to race against all the Civil War
drivers."
Alissa finishes season winning 2 in a row at Antioch Speedway. Giving her 4 wins for
the season. This puts the driver finishing 6th in the points at Petaluma with highest
rookie honors.
Alissa missed Fall Nationals to attend her High School Homecoming but will be at
Petaluma Speedway October 20th for the big Open Show. Also she will race
Novemeber 16th & 17th at Tulare for the Trophy Cup race.
